Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, is one of the richest actors in Nigeria.

He is a lawyer, producer, writer, former journalist, public speaker, politician, ex-special adviser, and ex-Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.

He is also the CEO of RMD Production Limited, White Water Limited, and RMD Foundation.

Mofe-Damijo was born in and hails from the Aladja community of the Udu Kingdom, Udu LGA, in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, where he also grew up.

In an interview, RMD revealed that his father passed away at around 57 or 58 years old, and his mother died at 59. Sadly, both of them died from diabetes and hypertension.

Richard Mofe-Damijo’s late father worked with the Nigerian Ports Authority in Warri, while his late mother was a trader who sold clothes for a living.

Every day, Mofe Damijo’s greatest fear was dying at the same age his parents died. So he hit the gym daily to keep fit and also prayed to clock 60 years and more.

Education

Richard Mofe-Damijo attended Midwest College in Warri for his primary education. He later went to Anglican Grammar School for his secondary education.
After completion, RMD proceeded to the University of Benin, where he obtained a degree in Theatre Arts in 1983.

To improve his qualifications and better equip himself, RMD continued his studies at the University of Lagos, where he obtained a law degree in 2004 and was called to the bar in 2005.

Career

RMD started his acting career in a drama club at his secondary school.

After graduating with a degree in Theatre Arts, he acted in the Nigerian TV show Ripples in the late 1980s, which marked the start of his professional acting career.

Before becoming an actor, he briefly worked as a writer at Concord Newspaper and also as a reporter for Metro and Quality magazine.

Mofe-Damijo became popular for his role as villain Segun Kadiri in the soap opera Checkmate and also after his excellent performance in the movie Out of Bound.

With over 40 years in the movie industry, RMD has appeared in more than six hundred films.

RMD’s first wife was the late May Ellen Mofe-Damijo, also known as ‘MEE’ Ezekiel. She died due to complications from surgery after having a fibroid removed.

Richard Mofe Damijo’s wife, May Ellen Mofe-Damijo, was a journalist, publisher, and talk show host until her death. Four years after her passing in 1996, RMD remarried on December 29, 2000, to his second wife, Jumobi Adegbesan.

Jumobi was the TV host of the Lunch Break Afternoon Show on AIT (Africa Independent Television) before transitioning to the corporate world.

RMD revealed during an interview with Tejubaby Face that being faithful in marriage is hard because, in their line of work, they are often the target of desperate girls.

He said,

“Being faithful is hard. You know, being in the line of work that we do, it’s tough because let’s face it. Every one of us that is married we are the target. “I mean, look at how women are. How can you escape it? Women are like Delilah. They are like Jezebel. They come prepared”.
